Because He's Black!!!

This older white guy asked his older black friend, 'Are you voting for Barack Obama just because he's black'?

So the older black guy fires back and says, 'Are you not voting for him because he's black?

Why can't I vote for him just cause he's black? Hell, in this country men are pulled over everyday just cause they're black, passed over for promotions just cause they're black, considered to be criminals just cause they're black, but you don't seem to have a problem with that.

This country was built with the sweat and whip of the slaves's backs, and now a descendent of those same slaves has a chance to lead the same country where we weren't even considered to be people, where we weren't allowed to be educated, drink from the same water fountains, eat in the same restaurants, or even vote, so you damn right I'm going to vote for him!
Not just because he's black, but because he is hope, he is change, and he now allows me to understand when my grandson says he wants to be president when he grows up, it is not a fairy tale but a short term goal, because he sees, understands, and knows, he can achieve, withstand, and do anything, just because he's black!
Me Too...!!!

The Meet and Greet With Dr. Cornwell...

Dear God, (and anyone else out there reading…)

Here is my version of the DFW Sisterlocks™ Meet and Greet With Dr. Cornwell. First I want to say, excellent, Excellent, EXCELLENT job GiGi, BlaqKofi, Maryee, Jen, Diane and there were two more ladies I don’t know there names (apologies). They made us feel catered to and comfortable.

When I first walked into the banquet room I felt the ambience of the warmth and beauty of Sisterlocks™ live and in person. The tables were nicely decorated with cloth fabric; food was served buffet style yet with the elegance of a sit down meal. Dinner was grilled or smoked salmon, Creamy Alfredo pasta with chicken breast, a Cesar salad, tasty dinner roll, and last but not least there was a variety of cake for dessert. There was an option of red wine, white wine, and/or the most delicious tasting sweeten tea ever (I had two glasses). Ms. Y teased me because I was the only one at our table drinking tea. I proudly proclaim that I no longer consume alcohol beverages. I give you all of the glory for that Lord. I so enjoyed fellowshipping with Ms. Y. I need to look for her at the most current gym I am attending.

Next, the beautiful ladies I met and experienced. I was proud to see my inspiration, Creyole, show up with her beautiful daughter Praline. Praline graced our ears with her deep and throaty version of "A Change Is Gonna Come" a 1965 single by R&B singer-songwriter Sam Cooke, written and first recorded in 1963. Though only a modest hit for Cooke in comparison with his previous singles, the song became one of his first blatantly political songs, and came to exemplify the sixties Civil Rights Movement. The song has gained in popularity and critical acclaim in the decades since its release. Little Ms. Praline, can definitely sing, Sing, SING! This is definitely a great song to symbolize the Sisterlocks™ self-LOVE experience.

Next I got a chance to meet Blaqkofi this is my living, walking, talking, breathing testimony of Sisterlocks™. I admire this woman and her spirit very, Very, VERY much.
I met Blaq’s sister, Ms. T #1, who is just as pleasant as BlaqKofi. I liked her instantly.

I met an awesome lady whom I sat next to at dinner. She has such an inspiring testimony, let me see if I can retell it without taking away from it. I am going to call her, Ms. T. #2, She showed me a photo of herself with glorious long shoulder length thick permed hair. It was enviously beautiful. She said she cut it all off, to support her sister who was diagnosed with cancer and had to go through treatments. She wanted to show her sister that it IS JUST hair. Now, Ms. T’s #2 hair is probably two inches long and she was recently Sisterlocked™. God, life is so amazing when are blessed to meet people who are not just living for themselves. Now that is support!

I met Musilmahlocs and her most beautiful daughter is just gorgeous, Gorgeous, GEOGEOUS! I met AllyH20 (I need to go to her blog site real soon) and Ms. S. Ms. S. shared with me that before she got her Sisterlocks™ she a bald patch in her hair, the resulting damage from wearing perms. She said she went to a white doctor and the doctor asked her why does she not wear her hair natural? Ms. S. said the doctor gave her some shots of cortisone (I think she said cortisone) in her head and that stimulated the return of hair growth. She said it was not until she witnessed a lady sporting an afro and she asked the lady "Is that your natural hair without any chemicals added to it?" The lady answered yes! She said she immediately went to get the perm chemicals cut off, she said before she lost the courage. Now seven years later Ms. S’s Sisterlocks™ extend past her shoulders. Ms. S. story is significant to me, because she touched on the key component to being natural, after so many years of mis-educated torment… IT TAKES COURAGE TO BE NATURAL!

God, I felt like such a groupie at the Sisterlocks™ meet and greet Dr. Cornwell. I bought four Sisterlocks™ Lifestyle Journals and the “All About Love” Poetry Book by Dr. Cornwell. I asked her to sign all of my books, and she did. I wish I had brought my “A Tapestry of Dreams” The Sisterlocks™ Book. I have never in my life jocked anything, or anyone, with the exception of Jesus Christ Himself. God, you know I have a fanatical, radical, mathematical admiration of Jesus! I was truly a fan, Fan, FAN at the Meet and Greet with Dr. Cornwell. She never acted irritated with me in any way. Thank your Dr. Cornwell for your time, presence, and your love for all of us.

Something Dr. Cornwell shared with us that I did not KNOW. Essentially we all know Sisterlocks™ cost so much on the front end of the process. (After a minimum of six months to a year, there is financial freedom and beautician freedom for the rest of your life—if you want to go and get retightening sessions you can and if you don’t want to you don’t have to). Dr. Cornwell shared with us that after she trains a consultant she no longer receives any income from that consultant. I thought this information made Dr. Cornwell more real, extra transparent, and even slightly vulnerable. This type of sharing impressed me because I was reading in “Hair Story” by Ayana D. Byrd and Lori L. Tharps how Madame C.J. Walker and Annie Turnbo Malone had a sort of pyramid type business. Well I just assumed, until actually meeting Dr. Cornwell that Sisterlocks™ was that type of business as well. Dr. Cornwell stated that the majority income comes from The Sisterlocks™ Lifestyle Journals, The DVDs, the specially formulated Sisterlocks™ hair care products, and any other items they sell under Sisterlocks™. Dr. Cornwell did not ask me to write any of this. I personally hope she is not offended by me writing this. But I just want to appeal to anyone out there who is not using Sisterlocks™ products, let us start supporting the company that gave us this freedom in the first place, before we go out and use products by white owned companies, disguising their products as if they are black owned.

Phenomenal Woman

Dear God, (and anyone else who is reading...)

I love, Love, LOVE this poem by Maya Angelou:

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies,
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms,
The span of my hips,
The stride of my steps,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my waist,
And the joy in my feet.

I'm a woman

Phenomenally.

Phenomenal woman,

That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them,
They say they still can't see.
I say,
it's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand

Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing,
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
it's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
The palm of my hand,
The need for my care.
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally,
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

My husband loves this picture and told my to put it in my post. It was our anniversary Jan. 12th and he took me out to a lovely restaurant with live jazz music playing as we ate in a secluded candle lit booth. He made surprise reservations and everything. It was an awesomely romantical (I made this word up, okay?) night. You can't tell from the photo but my hairstyle is Two-Strand Flat Twists in the front with a Blown-out Afro in the back. I felt so gorgeous, and my husband lavished attention on me on our special day. He is getting more affectionate each year. I think he is finally starting to understand some of my needs .

Lord, I admire you. I confess any sins that I have knowingly committed and I confess any sins I have committed that I don't know about. I thank you everyday for blessing with my huband, who is a man of God, I thank you for our twins, who are growing up strong in your Word. I come to you in supplication for my husband, Lord continue to pour your blessings and favor over his life. A-C-T-S! In Jesus's name. Amen

Being Natural is True Freedom and Internal Joy...

Dear Lord, (and anyone else out there reading my blog)...

These are photos of my first natural style, that I actually liked. I tried to wear the afro before for this. Everyone else complimented me. My biggest cheerleader my Mama even came over to give me grooming tips and more encouragement than I knew could exists. My identical twin sister took pictures. (I will post them tomorrow). She said later when you look back, you will see that indeed this afro does look beautiful on you. My husband made references to me looking like Angela Davis and the women of the 1970s. Everyone that mattered complimented and encouraged my first step to wearing my hair without my braid extensions. However there was so much, built up NON-LOVE, when I looked at my reflection in the mirror, I did not like the image looking back at me. What a shame, Shame, SHAME! I am so glad my identical twin sister took the pictures. I now am able to see the beauty in the natural me, Me, ME! (I promise I will post them tomorrow.)

These three pictures on the post today, are the sytle I was wearing when my "little mirror" said, "I don't want pony tails. I want to look like you. Pretty." My heart melted and my courage to be natural (without braid extensions) grew. I remember seeing a girl in this graduate program I am in, being natural. She radiates joy, confidence, beauty, and a comfortableness with herself I am yet able to describe with words. Well a positive habit, I had taken on was to compliment any woman I saw wearing her natural hair. I did not have the courage to do so for myself yet. But I wanted to, if I could, encourage them to keep doing what they were doing. Because, one thing I DID understand was being natural took boldness and it is also so very different from our current cultural standards. I wanted these ladies I complimented, to hear at least one person say something good to them that day about what they were saying to the world by simply being as God created them to be-- natural. This ended up being a reciprocal blessing, because the more I confessed to these sisters that I wanted to be natural but I was afraid, Afraid, AFRAID! They turned around and gave me advice, positive words, etc. But the girl, from my class said, "The day you are ready, I will help you style your hair." I surprised her when eight weeks later, I took her up on her offer. She said she thought I was not serious when I first mentioned my interest to her.

(Creyole, she was just as excited for me to be natural as you are for me to be Sisterlocked™. And the world truly is small, because she is also a member of my over 17,000 members church. I now see her at church and we encourage each other spiritually as well.) Oh, how the Lord has blessed my in my self-LOVE Experience. Thank you God. I give all of the glory, to you Lord.

The thing I found most facinating, was although I have not put any chemicals in my hair in over four years. The young lady from my class had been wearing her hair natural for a year and a half and she has more length, more volume, her hair is healthier. And she showed me pictures where her hair grew from being a TWA to the abundant mass of coily, kinky, wavy, natural strands they are today. I know, Know, KNOW that everyone hair is unique to them. However, I now realize that hair without the braid extensions are better. I also now realize, that Sisterlocks™ are an even better option. One major experience of freedom was when I went to the gym with this hairstyle. I work out consistently 4 days per week for two hours and I sweat like I've been in a shower for two hours. Well, I did not have to worry about my blown out afro shrinking. (Note to BlaqKofi-- I love volume). It was kind of disappointing to me when I first got my hair in TwoStrand Twists because it was done while my hair was wet. My natural hair is very "springy" and it just curled right up. I felt there was no volume and I felt like I looked like a boy. My girlfriend, from class said, " No. I like the way your hair does that, I wish mine would do that." Of course, I wishing my hair would do as her hair is doing. (Note to Ms Stella -- are you still out there? Did you have any similiar experiences with your hair?)

okay, Okay, OKAY! I really could talk to you forever and ever, Lord. But you know, I must go get the twins ready for school. Lord, I want you to know that I adore you, I confess all of my sins on to you (the ones I know of and the ones I don't know of), I am thankful to the many ways you exceedingly and abundantly bless your servant and her family -ME, I come to you in supplication for all women who are in bondage to the chemical treatments, the beauty salons, the self-HATE. I ask in Jesus's powerful and anointed name to release them from bondage as you did the children of Isreal. I also ask that in Jesus's mighty name they be release with a renewed and restored anointed love for self, a love for the God in them that is you, a self-Love! A-C-T-S!

In Jesus's Name, Amen.

This Reminds Me...

Dear God, (and anyone else out there reading...)

This picture reminds me of the Sisterlocks™ logo-- "The Flying Lady". On February 21, 2007 my version of "A Tapestry of Dreams-The Sisterlocks™ Book" arrived. I read this book from cover to cover in about 3 hours. See page 139. I love page 143, I believe that is just awesome and I am going to try to purposely include the ™ symbol everytime I write Sisterlocks™.

I also purchased the DVD "That Hair Thing" and The Sisterlocks™ Approach. This is a good product and investment. This DVD grabbed and kept my husband's attention and quickly explained so much to him. (We are still working thru the $$$ for Sisterlocks™). It is a quick, concise, and on point explaination and contains many visual examples. My husband is (and Lord you know so am I, for that matter) a visual learner.

After reading the book, I made a entry in the Notes section at the end here is an excerpt...

"...I have been searching for a way to be free and true to who God made me to be every since my Pastor started teaching us what we are unconsciously saying to God when we try to alter His creation--ME! It IS okay to enhance what God created, but to completely alter His creation! That is like saying, 'God when you made me, You made a mistake.' What nerve! My God is perfect and does not make mistakes.

I now know, Know, KNOW that as it is written in Proverbs 139:14 '...I am fearfully and wonderfully made...'. I did not always KNOW this. Sisterlocks™ is the final part of the key to unlocking my external and internal HEALING(s). I look forward to being able to completely love God who dwells in ME!

In Jesus's Name, Amen!
