Dear God, (and everyone else out there reading me...)

A six foot four inch tall man interested in "talking to me" suggested that I listen to a song called Miss Independent by a young man named NeYo. The lyrics are as follows...

Well, God, it is a nice song. However, I consider myself being a Christian and being Miss Independent clashing concepts for me, based on my interpretation of scripture. But I guess for the moment I am living in, newly single, newly independent, completed my Masters degree, new career, able to tithe in addition to my offerings, I need to figure out a way to mesh both concepts into the essence of Sis. RJQueen10. Because the reality is at work I am being groomed to be a BOSS, I walk, talk, act and look like a BOSS. But the reality is I rather be Wife, Mama, and resourceful Proverbs 31 Woman of God. In the meantime, "I'mma make it do what it do, baby"! I will glorify and magnify YOU, God!

Because He's Black!!!

This older white guy asked his older black friend, 'Are you voting for Barack Obama just because he's black'?

So the older black guy fires back and says, 'Are you not voting for him because he's black?

Why can't I vote for him just cause he's black? Hell, in this country men are pulled over everyday just cause they're black, passed over for promotions just cause they're black, considered to be criminals just cause they're black, but you don't seem to have a problem with that.

This country was built with the sweat and whip of the slaves's backs, and now a descendent of those same slaves has a chance to lead the same country where we weren't even considered to be people, where we weren't allowed to be educated, drink from the same water fountains, eat in the same restaurants, or even vote, so you damn right I'm going to vote for him!
Not just because he's black, but because he is hope, he is change, and he now allows me to understand when my grandson says he wants to be president when he grows up, it is not a fairy tale but a short term goal, because he sees, understands, and knows, he can achieve, withstand, and do anything, just because he's black!

ANNOUNCING...

Dear God, (and everyone else out there reading me...),

Well, as you can see I've been busy, Busy, BUSY! I will graduate with my Master's of Science degree in Healthcare Administration! Plus, God bestowed upon me full time employment in a career that will utilize both my undergraduate and graduate degrees. The most awesome thing, is life is going to get even better than it is right NOW! Thank you Jesus! The best of my story has never been told (because I have not lived it yet)! Self-LOVE is MANIFESTING!

My Six Month Anniversary

Dear God, (and anyone else out there reading me...)

It was on a Sunday, six months ago, I realized an important milestone in my life as I completed my decision to LOCK my hair. (with my awesome consultant's assistance, of course.)

I am really appreciating the back of my hair's progress. I don't get to see it often, so I like this photo alot. I love the way my LOCKS feel. The back is progressing nicely and feels more settled than the front.

I am so liberated, I retightened my hair two days before these pictures were taken. It took me two days, done of course at my own pace. I was in no hurry!

I see myself everyday, so it really does not feel like there are any changes in my hair length, but I do know it IS growing. It is starting to lay down (hang) instead of sticking out in all directions! I look forward to this new look!

The front of my hair was the most challenge in retightening, I experienced lot's of slippage and so they took longer to retightened. But I am so appreciative that I have the ability to do something about them before they get completely out of hand.

Six months going strong and feeling proud!

Soul Mate

I don't feel my hair looks any different, but I love to be consistent and make a post at least one per month for the year 2008. Plus, I still have not ironed out the kinks with the digital camera my twin sister gave me for Christmas. So I thought I would make my monthly contribution by sharing a poem written by someone I used to KNOW. I think it is a lovely poem and I just wanted to share the beauty of the words with blogland.

Soul Mate

Have you ever met someone you've never seen?

The feeling you have for that special person is not something you can create
The person that has your mind, body, and soul could be your soul mate...

A soul mate is not a nice body or a pretty face
A soul mate will share their time and space
A soul mate will give you their all
A soul mate will take the hit, when you fall
A soul mate will lift you up, when you’re down
A soul mate will remain faithful, when you’re not around

Soul mates don’t give half of their hearts
Soul mates are never too far apart
Soul mates are not drawn together just through sex
Soul mates understand the meaning of love, honor, and respect
Soul mates are linked together at all times
Soul mates are tight like partners committing a crime
Soul mates don’t want something that is too fast
Soul mates want a LOVE that will last
Soul mates enjoy the feeling of that special touch
Soul mates will tell each other, when that’s not good enough

A soul mate commitment is not something you can learn
A soul mate obligation IS a bond that has to be earned
So if you ever meet that special person who blinds your heart and cause you to shake

In 2008 Everything Crooked, Will Be Made Straight! God's Blessings Will Pour Down On Us!

Dear God, (and anyone else out there reading...)

Whew! I almost missed making a post for January 2008! I was inspired by Chosen Vessel blogspot post entitled "New Year, New Beginning" That post is the bomb! It is an excellent expression of God's Love and God's promises.

This self-Love experience involves a variety of changes. This year I look forward to "New Beginnings" and the courage I will require for the blessed unknowns ahead of me. I will graduate with my Masters in Healthcare Administration, I will be working again for the first time since I had our children five years ago, I am separated now and I will obtain a divorce (I don't condone this), I will lose all of this weight (35 pounds) I gained back while I was depressed, and there is much more that I don't even know about yet! Jesus is unveiling the pages of my story and I want to be courageous enough to "LET GO" a post from BlaqKofi blogspot, and LET GOD!



Chosen Vessels encourages us to select and stand on a scripture for 2008. My scripture to stand on for 2008 is Joshua 1:6-9 :

"Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these poeple to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them. Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be properous and sucessful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

Liberation

Dear God (and anyone else out there reading me...),

Over the span of three days, I retightened my own hair. Thanks to my consultant who showed me the process, I am FREE... When I got my hair LOCKED I never imagined that I would be able to maintain it so early in the process. I am so appreciative and blessed.



I love that I did not have to feel rushed. I opened presents with my children, cooked dinner, played with my children and their Christmas toys, visited family, and more. I was in absolutely no rush with retightening my hair. But once I was in the flow of retightening my hair, I had to force myself to stop. I did not want to stop, but all of these other events required some of me.



My only issue was that my thumb and pointer finger required me to rest because they ached from fitting my locked hair through the tiny slot on the Nappy Lock tool. I believe as I do this more that finger aching will be a thing of the past.

It was actually a therapeutic and spiritual process for me as I handled my own hair, my mind released thoughts and I felt unburdened. One of those days I did not turn the TV on at all, most of the day I played Christian Christmas and Gospel music. I took this long to post this post (1/2/08) because I was waiting to get the pictures back from my sister who took them with her digital camera. I did get an opportunity to visit my consultant Creyole and she said I was doing a good job with my hair. I lost my first Nappy Lock tool when it fell down my sink, and I could not retrieve it. So when I replaced it, I bought two, just in case.

National Body Challenge 2008 Countdown...

National Body Challenge 2008

I just want to thank all of you out in blogland who consistently come and visit my blog. My Locks are growing and changing progressively but photowise (I made that word up) they still look the same, so I am going to wait a little while longer before I post any photos. But one thing I learned that I really love is when I get My Locks retightened. I enjoy seeing my parts and how neat my hair looks. Thanks Creyole for EVERYTHING!

Okay, If anyone would like a FREE 8 week gym membership google "National Body Challenge 2008". Registration begins December 27, 2007. Every year in January they jumpstart fitness by giving free gym memberships and lots nutrition information. I've done it every year, since 2002. Last year I lost 30 pounds. It is just keeping the weight off, that is my biggest challenge. I believe 2008 will be my year!!!

My LOCKS Lift Me…

Dear God, (and everyone else out there reading me…)

Since you are omnipotent, omniscience, and omnipresent you are aware that I have actually been in a state of DEPRESSION, but as I drove home from my workout at the gym this morning I felt HAPPY for the first time in about three and a half months, my JOY is starting to reawaken too! I believe the feeling of Happiness is an external feeling and is controlled by things going on AROUND one’s life. I believe joy is an internal feeling and depends on the spiritual things going on IN one’s life. Thank you, God!

I LOVE my LOCKS, they are so liberating. My baby LOCKS are now three weeks and three days old and I have already had them retightened by the lovely Creyole. She also provided me with a stress relieving massage shampoo. My scalp tingled with relief and my voice box involuntarily released gratifying moan sounds. What a great shampoo, especially since I had gotten used to shampooing my hair every other day when I was kicking my short afro.

Wow, I feel surprised that my hair needed retightening. This is because there is growth, about ½ an inch, my hair has never grown this fast before. Actually keeping all the hair products and hair tools out of my hair is favorable to my new growth process. I feel so much more confident now that my hair has been retightened. I think I am kind of weird, because I am actually attracted to the parts showing in my hair. Before I got my LOCKS I read how some people did not like their parts showing. I don’t like my “kitchen” area that is growing out to be LOCKED one day, because it “looks” unruly. However, I really do not worry about it much especially since it is in the back out my head and I have to go out of my way to see my curly, kinky, coily, napps.

My simple regime consisted for the first three weeks of a spritz with some water that I tricked out with some Rosemary Tea, I got the recipe from bottom of page 45 “Going Natural” by Mireille Liong-A-Kong. I also cover my head at night when I go to sleep. That all, folks. I did not workout for two weeks because I was concerned my LOCKS would slip. I was timid about working out because when I work out, I sweat so hard and intense every part of myself is drenched like I stepped out a shower, especially my hair. Now I am at the gym on a regular basis, three times this week already I have not needed to spritz my hair every morning.

Although I was also afraid to touch my hair, I thought I would mess it up, I could not resist. I enjoy the course natural texture of my hair. I am not sure how to describe this touching sensation, but many of my hair strands in the back feel like what I image a LOCK to feel like.

I really like my spiked look and I look forward to the unknowns of how my LOCKS will behave as they continue to grow.

Side Note to Self: I started with 3 inches of hair in the front and top, 2 inches in the back, and 1 inch and less near the nape of my neck.
