My Six Month Anniversary

Dear God, (and anyone else out there reading me...)
It was on a Sunday, six months ago, I realized an important milestone in my life as I completed my decision to LOCK my hair. (with my awesome consultant's assistance, of course.)

I am really appreciating the back of my hair's progress. I don't get to see it often, so I like this photo alot. I love the way my LOCKS feel. The back is progressing nicely and feels more settled than the front.

I am so liberated, I retightened my hair two days before these pictures were taken. It took me two days, done of course at my own pace. I was in no hurry!

I see myself everyday, so it really does not feel like there are any changes in my hair length, but I do know it IS growing. It is starting to lay down (hang) instead of sticking out in all directions! I look forward to this new look!

The front of my hair was the most challenge in retightening, I experienced lot's of slippage and so they took longer to retightened. But I am so appreciative that I have the ability to do something about them before they get completely out of hand.

Six months going strong and feeling proud!

Hey, your locks are coming along nicely. My locks behaved better in the back too. I think it is because the hair in the back is more course. It took longer for the top and front to lock. That's great you're doing your own tightening.

Wow! You are really doing a good job with your locks. The growth is obvious and you apparently have a knack for retightening. Keep up the good work!

Chosen Vessel,

I am so appreciative to Creyole for showing me how to retighten my hair. When I first got my LOCKS I went from being afraid to touch my hair, because I thought I would mess it up or cause my LOCKS to come a loose to loving the textured feel of every strand of my hair.

Thank you for telling me my hair looks healthy. My mother keeps telling, “Baby your hair looks dry. Is there some moisturizer you can put on your hair?” I know my locks are not mature, and I should not put anything but the water spritz I am using on my hair. So I just smile her comments away.

Aya,

I am not looking for feedback, but I tell ya the truth! It sure does feel great to hear positive words of encouragement about my hair.

I did not notice until I started wearing my hair in its natural state the different textures of my hair. I have all and all, nappy, kinky, coily, springy, wavy and thick hair and finally I am able to LOVE IT in all of its glory.

I get to share this love with my 5 year old daughter, every time I wash her hair. I tell her about how “Nappy, kinky, coily, springy, wavy, and thick her hair is and I also add it’s beautiful just like Mama’s. She smiles brightly every time I tell her this.

Once again and I will never tire of doing this, I thank Creyole for showing me how to retighten my own hair. I am currently an economically challenged graduate student so it is most fortunate that I don’t have to figure about how to financially pay for my hair to be in this liberating and beautiful style.

Note to self,

Those two deletions above was because of a multiple post. I pushed "Publish Post" too many times.

Maryee,

Thank you for stopping by. I am so looking forward to the milestones that are to come with my LOCKed hair. These six months went by rapidly, I feel so free I can’t even explain it in words. The other day it was beautifully warm (and windy) in Texas so I drove with my windows down and let the air flow through my hair.

That is a most excellent sensation. I didn’t have to worry about my hair being out of place. When I got to my designation, I just finger styled my LOCKs back into place.

When my locks grow up like yours have, I may make a video similar to the one you did when you were swinging your hair all over the place as your sister Jenn played music in the background. That clip was so refreshing and inspiringly FUNNY!

Tra,

Thank you for letting me know you were here. Thank you for your strong words of encouragement and for seeing my growth. My heart is swelling with warmth from all of the LOVE I have received as I celebrate 6 months of my self-LOVE experience.

As far as retightening I feel so blessed and grateful that I am able to maintain my own hair. My identical twin sister was just expressing woe to me earlier this month. She told the beautician how she wanted her hair, but it came out completely different.

Those days for me are gone (and thanks to your post about grooming miscommunication that can happen I am at least prepared for how to express my concerns more than I would have been had I never read your post). Thanks for blazing the trail for us novices, I appreciate you!

It is so commendable how you remind your daughter how beautiful her hair is. These affirmations are so important, especially at such a young age. Self-esteem and a sense of self-worth are priceless to young girls in this day and age. So when she grows up and society tells her that her hair is unacceptable, she won't have to doubt or question herself. She will already know the truth. Your daughter is so blessed to have you!

By the way, your hair is coming along nicely!
